With the nation reeling from reporting that AI is on the brink of destroying all of humanity, President Trump is convinced the technology is completely safe and he will be proceeding with it full speed ahead. So confident his insticts are correct he has labled anyone who does not embrace his AI enthusiasm a traitor. This would include the likes of Sam Altman and Dario Amodei, CEO’ s of artificial inteligence giants Open AI and Anthropic respectively, as well as Elon Musk. The three of them agreed AI development needs to slow down.
Taking to social media, Trump said AI endagerment is all a “hoax”, and there is a “sick conspiracy” swerling around it. On a seperate post he said “Don’t kill the golden goose!”. That statement drips of despiration. AI has propped up the stock market for months, and even though half the country is not invested in it, it is the one economic index Trump relies on to try and convince people his economy is “hot”. If AI stocks nose dive, he knows he has nothing left to tout. To make matters worse for him, he IS invested in AI, heavily, and who knows how significant the hit would be to his portfolio if AI equities plument.
Hilarious and alarming at the same time was his self engrandizing post describing his understanding of AI. Pushing back on calls for action, Trump said “The only control or ‘guardrails’ that AI needs is a STRONG AND SMART (HIGH IQ!) PRESIDENT, and the U.S.A. has that in spades!” Personally I’m not real comfortable knowing Trump wants to instal himself as the nation’s steward of AI development.
Let’s take a look at how he handled the two most serious crises of his administrations: Covid and the war with Iran.
Where to start with the covid crisis? The failures are so voluminous I guess you should look at something like this to simply things. Trump’s Covid Failures And of course Trump is the genius who suggested injecting bleach and inserting lightbulbs up our asses to kill the virus. It has not been that long ago that that disease was running rampant, but people forget how devastating it was. Physicians and nurses were working 20 hour shifts and we had to store dead bodies in refrigerated trucks.
You want to see how badly Trump is handling the war with Iran? Just read the newspaper. And that’s just the half of it. Trump’s war, and that’s what it is, isn’t jamming just us with skyrocketing fuel, food and comodity prices. This shit is crushing economies world wide, and there are global riots and protests in countries initiated by people who are even more frustrated than we are. And Trump is out there proclaiming we’ve never had it so good and even refusing to admit there is a war going on. The guy is a lunatic. He has no idea how AI works. Actually no one really knows, and that is precisely the problem. Trump’s knowledge of AI begins and ends with the hours he wastes asking Natalie Harp to make cool AI generated pics of him as Superman, Hulk Hogan, and posing all buffed with George Washington and Abe Lincoln.
This is in no way the guy we should remotely trust to save us from AI Armageddon.
